BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award
Sunday 12th Dec 99
Lennox Lewis, world heavyweight champion,
has been voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Quotes from the Champ:

“This is a great honour for me.”

“I’d like to thank the team behind me and my country. It’s been 10 years and there have been trials and tribulations trying to acheive this goal.”

“They made me box 24 rounds for it
so I can say I earnt it.”

“For all the young people out there, may my trials and tribulations be a level of success for them.”

“I’d also like to thank my fans for bringing me through.”

There was no disputing the verdict surrounding the reception of one visitor to Afro Hair and Beauty 99 at Alexandra Place at the weekend.
When world heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis arrived at the bank holiday event, the atmosphere, said organisers, became “electric”.
Lewis was surrounded by excited fans, not all of them wearing Lennox Lewis T-shirts, as he strolled around the show.
Visitors were also treated to a performance by current pop sensations Destiny’s Child.
Alexandra Place events manager, Damian Bush, said: “Although the event was essentially a hairdressing and beauty extravaganza there was a real carnival atmosphere.”
Mr. Bush added: “It became electric when Lennox Lewis paid a visit.” Ham & High Broadway
